Gunmen Kill policeman In Warri

Pandemonium broke out on the busy NPA Road, near the new Nigerian Port Authority, on Monday in Warri, Delta State, following the killing of a riot policeman by three masked gunmen.

It was learnt that the officer, who had yet-to-be-identified, was shot severally in the chest by the hoodlums who were trailing another man, who had just withdrawn unspecified amount of money from a bank located in the area.
It was gathered that the policeman died on the spot.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the gunmen were dressed in black and wore masks. It was learnt that they shot sporadically to scare away onlookers and passersby.
Business owners and traders were seen around 12pm, packing their goods to close for the day as the incident force people to desert the area.
The operation which lasted for 10 minutes was just a few kilometre from a military checkpoint, manned by a combined team of security agencies, including the navy, air force and the army.
It could not be immediately confirmed if the robbers made away with the money.
Police spokesperson in the state, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident. She said the riot policeman died on the spot during the attack
